Call for papers

Graduate (Master, PhD) and advanced undergraduate (Bachelor) students are invited to submit abstracts for both oral presentations (20 minutes plus additional 10 minutes for discussion) and poster presentations.

DEADLINE EXTENDED: Submissions now close 29th October 2023

We invite abstracts from a broad field of linguistic subfields (e.g. language acquisition, morphology, phonetics/ phonology, semantics/ pragmatics, sociolinguistics, syntax) and methodologies (e.g. computational, experimental, fieldwork, theoretical).

Also, due to the prominence of Queen Mary University of London as a centre for sociolinguistics, we particularly welcome submissions from this subfield, as well as submissions from other linguistic subfields which have a sociolinguistic element.

Please adhere to the following guidelines for paper submissions:

  • All papers must be original, and we especially welcome those papers not submitted to other journals or conferences.

  • All authors should be early stage researchers (Bachelor, Master, PhD within the first 3 years of their PhD).

  • Submissions are limited to two abstracts, with at most one single-authored paper.

  • The order of authors should reflect the contribution to the paper; equal contribution has to be indicated.

  • The submission file(s) must be anonymous and not reveal the identity of the author(s) in any way (be sure to remove metadata from the file).

  • Authors should specify whether they would like to be considered for oral or poster presentation, or for both.

  • Maximum 2 pages A4 per abstract (excluding references, including examples, tables and figures), 2.5cm margins, 12pt font, .pdf format. Abstract templates are available here.

  • Abstracts which do not comply with these guidelines may be excluded from the reviewing process.
